So, I've started a new blog, mostly to play with the Wordpress platform on Wordpress.com before installing it on my own server.

Eating in Pleasanton

There are all sorts of quirks in Wordpress but it looks easier to use than anything else, so far.

This reminds me, I recently applied for a job that, amongst other duties, would require someone to maintain some blogs done in Movable Type. While it looks like I'm not getting the job (no response yet), I figured I'd would need to learn MT and I've heard that it's more complex than Wordpress is. Any comparative thoughts?

Well, all I can say is that some months ago, I was planning the migration of my main site (Berch on Food) to a more modern and extensible platform (from Blosxom, which is nice, but somewhat limited). I posted to the Well and sent email to a number of knowledgeable colleagues, asking for help in choosing between Wordpress and Movable Type, and I got 13 responses, 12 of which recommended Wordpress, 0 recommended MT, and 1 recommended something else (I forget what). So, while I have yet to have any actual experience installing or maintaining either, the community of blog admins seems to have a definite opinion.

Might we hope that updates to this one will be noted on sfo2lhr as they are for BOF?

Actually, since it will be much more frequent than my own LJ or BoF, it has its own automated feed, syndicated through LJ. Just add eatinginptown to your friends list. (Berch on Food is also available, as berchonfood.)

Apparently it was on by default; more precisely "moderate comments by all NEW posters". I turned it off & will keep it like that unless it urns into a spamfest.
